Save A Mutt Shelter came about because of the desperation of large dogs to find a home before they were euthanized in kill shelters. In less than three years we have transported over a thousand dogs to rescues in northern Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana. We have also transported many dogs to specific breed rescues. We pulled and sheltered hundreds of dogs from kill shelters and found homes for those dogs who would have otherwise been euthanized. We also accept owner relinquished dogs so they do not have to experience the negative environment of a dog pound. We prefer helping people through education and training to keep their beloved pets.
We accept dogs in need of socialization and training to win the love of a family in need of a forever family member. Large dogs are more likely to be euthanized in a shelter than their small, yappy peers. And, actually, the medium to large dogs make much better playmates for smaller children. Depending on the amount of time we shelter a dog, they are usually house broke, crate trained and learn commands like sit, down, stay and come. If you are in need of a fabulous family dog, please contact us and we will find that perfect pet for you.
We are a 501c3 corporation so any donation may be deducted from your federal taxes.
