What We Are About

Save A Mutt Shelter came about because of the desperation of large dogs to find a home before they were euthanized in kill shelters.  In less than three years we have transported near 750 dogs to rescues in northern Illinois and Indiana.  We have also transported many dogs to specific breed rescues in Michigan and Missouri.  We have trained several dogs since July of last year and found homes for those dogs who would have otherwise been unadoptable.  We started transports when our director volunteered to scoop poop at Lawrence County Humane Society.  When the shelter was to its max and dogs were still coming in, Karen began learning about rescues.  We now have included other organizations in our transports to help them save their pets.

  • Training & Rescues

We try to foster dogs who are in need of socialization and training to win the love of a family in need of a forever family member.  Large dogs are more likely to be euthanized in a shelter than their small, yappy peers.  And, actually, the medium to large dogs make much better playmates for smaller children.  If you are in need of a fabulous family dog, please contact us and we will find that perfect pet for you.

We are a 501c3 corporation so any donation may be deducted from your federal taxes.

So far this year, we have transported over 150 dogs to no-kill shelters in the Chicago area to help them find their forever homes.  We have also transported dogs to specific breed rescues.  If you are in need of help transporting, please contact us.
